Ask Doug: France’s Banning of the Burqa

In this Ask Doug segment, Pastor Wilson answers the question:

“In light of your views on statism and Islamism, what are your thoughts on France’s banning of the niqab or burqa?”

  1. Denis Giron says:

Very interesting talk. Piggybacking on Mr. Wilson’s comment about France’s inconsistencies being revealed in their banning of the niqab, I would add that there is a certain irony when comparing the French state’s attitude towards abortion and its attitude towards the niqab. On the one hand, the general idea is that a woman has a right to make decisions about her body. On the other hand, if she is not deciding to terminate a pregnancy, but rather is deciding to dress in accordance with her interpretation of Islam’s notion of modesty, such a right can apparently no longer be afforded to her, and her body suddenly becomes the jurisdiction of the state.
